Bella asked:

All my Characters have stories that entwine in my life. As each person is involved in my life , I am involved in theirs and would like to write my view of what they bring into my story and how I see them. Knowing I’ll change names, dates, places etc… Could this be a legal issue if one was to get mad about the character that would know doubt could be them? I do also have a few haters and they would be a bigger threat if I had success. I want to be truthful and as kind and worthy of writing about the characters in my life as possible. I need to know legally the fall out if someone gets mad or even greedy…
My story is about my life and my friends have a huge part in it. As many woman I have a group of close friends and I am the center character. I do feel each one has a story within the story. How will this affect the out come legally and would I have a better chance at involving them to insure security and success.

Ugly Itch.

You could make a disclaimer? Or write under a pseudonym.

If a person senses that your story is about them because you changed the name but kept the events the same then they maybe could try and sue you but I think it really depends on what you write about them. It’d have to be pretty bad for them to actually win a case against you I would think. And jealousy of you won’t make them want to take you to court and if they did that’s kind of stupid and they really won’t win just because they wish they could be successful in something they enjoy to do like you and your writing. People write stories based on others in their life everyday, the key besides changing the name is to change the situation up a little bit and then nobody will guess that it’s them. You can still have the reader sense the emotion you’re attempting to get across even if it isn’t how it exactly was in real life.

This is just what I think.
Good luck with your story! It sounds very interesting! :)
