Brad asked:

The biggest monopoly obviously is the organization called government that (at the bare minimum) claims a monopoly on defense and which funds itself by taking money from people without their consent (through extortion, which it refers to as taxation). This entity is also the same one that is the only entity capable of creating a monopoly (which it can do by subsidizing a business, outlawing competition to a favored business, or granting that business a “right” to forms of imaginary “property” such as copyright and patents). The government has also invented the legal fiction of a corporation so that some businesses can escape liability for their debts and subsidized the creation of businesses that produce the weapons used by governments to kill innocent foreigners and even innocent people within their own territory.

How is it that leftists hold to an anti-monopoly, anti-war, anti-corporate position while supporting expanding the very entity that creates those problems? Besides that, why do leftists want the government to redistribute wealth to the poor when the government is the very entity that creates large levels of income inequality by granting special privileges and welfare checks and through heavy taxes on everybody, including a structure that penalizes people who try to increase how much money they earn (it is no wonder that the likes of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are strong supporters of “progressive” taxation)?

And what are the legal ramifications (if any) that would follow?
The characters are all original, the locations are somewhat differed from the original, and only technology remains pretty much the same.

I’m writing a fan fiction of a manga, and for the purposes of the story, I need to know what age teenagers can legally move out of their parents’ house in Japan. Does anyone know the answer, and please only tell me if you’re sure of the answer. Thanks!

I came across a fan fiction writer that is soliciting for donations directly related to her writing of copyrighted fan fiction stories. We all know that fan fiction is written by people using material and characters related to these copyrighted franchises and not receiving or charging money for their efforts, but I have never in 10 years seen anyone actually solicit for donations. (Until NOW) So I was just wondering if this FF writer could get into trouble for this? Or perhaps even cause big trouble for Fan fiction in general?
If you have asked for a link and allow for contact by e-mail in your Y/A profile, I will send a link on this matter to those who ask. But I wish to NOT post that link publically in here.
Or… You can e-mail me privately and I will then send you the URL in question.
The matter has been resolved now. The Author in question has removed references to donations from her Fan Fiction bio/profile page and donation comments from some Author notes after several chapters. CASE CLOSED.

All my Characters have stories that entwine in my life. As each person is involved in my life , I am involved in theirs and would like to write my view of what they bring into my story and how I see them. Knowing I’ll change names, dates, places etc… Could this be a legal issue if one was to get mad about the character that would know doubt could be them? I do also have a few haters and they would be a bigger threat if I had success. I want to be truthful and as kind and worthy of writing about the characters in my life as possible. I need to know legally the fall out if someone gets mad or even greedy…
My story is about my life and my friends have a huge part in it. As many woman I have a group of close friends and I am the center character. I do feel each one has a story within the story. How will this affect the out come legally and would I have a better chance at involving them to insure security and success.

Need to find out for a piece of fiction.

Say a science fiction writer has thought up and used a piece of technology in one of his/her books. Is there any legal parameters if I thought that technology was possible to develop, and wished to do so?
If a company suddenly released a product that was described by a work of fiction, it seems logical that someone would point to them and say “Hey, that’s [so and so's] idea”, and thus infringe copyright?

eat me hillary asked:

Can any of you tell me why it makes sense to tax a work of legal fiction instead of taxing actual individuals?
I think some of you are missing the point.

Corporate taxes aren’t paid by the corporation to begin with, the price is merely passed on to the consumer.

As this is the case, does it not make more sense just to tax individuals?
